	Alyeska Snow Classic House Bill 245 passed, approving the Alyeska Snow Classic for Four Valleys Community School in Girdwood. It allows the community school to raise money by selling tickets to guess the snow depth on Mt. Alyeska, similar to the Nenana Ice Classic lottery to guess the minute of river breakup on the Tanana River. “FVCS has been working on this concept for a couple of years, and we’re very excited it passed, but it needs to be approved by the governor before it becomes law,” said Rebecca Reichlin, chair of Four Valleys Community School, Inc. “The money will help the community school to become self-sufficient.” A big congratulations to the FVCS board and other volunteers who worked endlessly to make this a reality. Rebecca was a huge part of this project and we are so proud of her hard work and dedication to the community! Great job!

	Fundraiser for Woman Injured on Seward Highway On Friday, April 6, Bird Creek resident Amanda Auffrey-Lawton was seriously injured when a large chunk of ice fell from the cliffs on the Seward Highway, crushing the truck she was driving. Alyeska Resort has just announced their plans to replace the existing 4-person fixed-grip Chair 4 with a high speed detachable quad! This will increase the lift’s uphill skier capacity and shorten the lift ride time by almost half! C’mon folks, we’re talking a 5-7 minute ride to the top of Chair 4! WOW! Construction will begin this summer and will be completed by the 2012-13 ski season. The hardware for the new lift will cost around $4 million, installation will cost approx. $1 million and the resort plans to spend another million on summer grading work for terrain improvements.
